SALARY: $4,279 – $5,148/mo.

Under general supervision, Survey Party Technicians perform survey and layout work on engineering and mapping projects in the field and in the office. Routine duties include the operation of surveying equipment, such as electronic total stations with data collectors and levels during the performance of boundary location, topographic surveys, construction staking and other engineering and land survey work. Incumbents may be required to work in the field under adverse weather conditions.

The current vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of six (6) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. Should the competitive process be suspended for this recruitment, the eligibility list may be limited to three (3) months.

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for the examination and does not assure placement on the eligible list.

Two (2) years of experience in surveying in the field which included using theodolites, levels, tape and application of engineering computations in performing boundary location, topographic surveys and construction staking; AND six (6) semester units of accredited college or university course work in plane surveying and successful completion of one trigonometry course. (High School or College level). One (1) additional year of qualifying experience may be substituted for the required plane surveying and trigonometry course work.

A copy of college and/or high school transcripts or course work must be uploaded and included in your on-line application for verification of meeting the educational requirement. Applicants lacking the documentation may be rejected.

Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required at time of appointment. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.

Eligibles certified for consideration for hire will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.

The examination process may consist of the following:

Written Examination - 100%: A multiple-choice job related written examination may be administered which will determine placement on the eligible list. The written examination is designed to assess a candidate's knowledge in the following areas: the principles and practices of surveying, care and use of survey instruments, maps, U.S. public land surveys, determining elevations and making engineering computations. Candidates must achieve a passing score in order to qualify for the eligible list. The written exam date is to be determined..

Qualified veterans who pass the examination may obtain five (5) additional points.
Candidates applying for veteran's preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period. Evidence must be presented to indicate that the candidate was discharged honorably from the military service. Veterans, including City employees, must resubmit proof of honorable service for every examination for which veteran's preference credit is requested.
